Product development

Product development at Berger is done in three phases:
  1. Definition phase
  2. Development phase
  3. Qualification phase
Phase 1:
Definition phase: In a first step specifications are developed together with the customer, defining all product features and the customer's requests. In a second step specifications are generated which take into consideration laws and regulations, applicable patents and the status quo of the technically feasible.

Phase 2:
During the development phase, the product features and customer's requests defined in the specifications are realized. In order to find potential weak points, Berger employs already during the design phase tools such as Failure Mode and Effect Analysis FMEA or Finite Elements Methods FEM. Results of this phase are product descriptions such as sets of drawings, bills of material and instructions.

During the qualification phase a prototype of the planned product is built with the aid of rapid prototyping such as stereolithography STl or selective laser sintering SLS. Together with the customer, the functions of the product are tested and the first two phases once more reconciled. After that, we produce the zero series. During this, tools, jigs and fixtures etc. are tested for their suitability in a series production. Successful completion of the product development is marked by the customer's approval, after which process development may start.
